Tips for Knee Surgery Recovery
3rd Jun 2016
After your knee surgery, you will probably be incredibly anxious to recover as quickly as possible. It is important to stay patient, because a proper recovery takes time. There are certain things you can do to help the process go smoothly, and in the next two blogs, we will be looking at four tips for a successful knee surgery recovery.
Prepare before your surgery
If you know you have a surgery coming up, there are many ways you can prepare for a smooth recovery process. Get your home ready so that is easy to live in while your mobility is limited. Install temporary rails in your bathroom so that showering and using the restroom are easy to do. Move everything you will need to live during your recovery onto one floor so that you avoid unnecessary trips up or down stairs. Talk with your doctor to see if they recommend a pre-surgery training regimen. In some cases, they will be able to help you create a training plan to get your body ready for the procedure. Doing these things ahead of time will help you to get back into the swing of things quickly once you are back home after your surgery.
Focus on the swelling
Once you are back home, getting the swelling under control should be your number one priority. Follow your doctor’s instructions for reducing swelling. In general, you will want to ice your knee for around ten minutes each hour. Concentrate on working on mobility during this time as well.
