Mackie Wrist Brace

The Mackie Wrist Brace uses a unique infinitely adjustable hinge mounted on a rigid, non-contact frame. This design offers simplicity of function, strong construction, and superior patient comfort. The Mackie hinge mechanism is engineered to allow for smooth and infinite positional settings.  The hinge's adjustability allows the patient to control how much force is applied to achieve the best result. The Mackie Wrist Brace is bi-directional, meaning it has the ability to be used in both flexion and extension. This can avoid the added expense of a second brace because many patients require stretch in both directions.

The Mackie Wrist Brace is designed to stretch soft tissue contractures within six months of onset and return the maximum range of motion possible to the joint. This treatment is usually prescribed following surgery in addition to other therapeutic measures. Discuss a wearing schedule and other protocols with your physician.

Mechanism of Action - Static Progressive Splint (SPS): Used to restore lost range of motion in contracted joints

• Soft tissues respond as a viscoelastic material
• As the tissues are stretched and then held at a constant length, the stress and tendency to rebound (shorten) gradually declines
• This decline is called stress relaxation
• SPS stretches soft tissues using a series of incremental changes over time
• The response from the tissues is to elongate, allowing for greater range of motion in the joint
